The project was comprised of 400 acres of gardens and lawns with free standing pavilions including Africans cabins, several swimming pools, two towers with 750 air-conditioned rooms, a cinema, an ice-skating rink, restaurants, coffee shops, nightclubs, a private marina, a conference center holding 1,500 seats as well as a luxury casino- a first in Africa. The hotel was designed by Chaim Heinz Fenchel, who at the time was also the designer of Israel's Dan Hotel chain, and reflected the still-pervasive Western colonialist interests in Africa. The public halls contained an impressive chandelier and ceilings painted in an intense red. Each part of the monumental complex received individual treatment, ceilings and wall finishes with geometric patterns attributable to African culture. Israeli artists joined them and specifically adapted their work to the spirit of the place in order to give resonance to the national aspirations and the aims for development and progress of Ivory Coast’s founder, President Houphouet Boigny.
