This residential neighborhood, whose urban plan was designed by architects Yitzhak Perlstein and Robert Bennett in 1959, was inspired by the Interbau Exhibition (which took place in Germany in 1957 and invited architects to plan and execute experimental projects). It enabled leading Israeli architects to explore the possibilities inherent in what was then the most prevalent type of construction in Israel – the tenement block – and the basis of it, create a diverse collection of buildings.
The "Model Neighborhood" in Ramat Aviv is one of the most exciting experimental projects in the history of local architecture, whose outcome constituted a milestone in housing development planning in Israel and abroad.

Architect Yitzhak Perlstein was also the brother-in-law of Mordechai Mayer, and made the master plan for Ashdod with Arch. and planner Arie Dudayi.
