Madagascar Plan
madagascar | 1940
The Madagascar Plan was a proposal of the Nazi government during the Second World War to relocate the Jewish population of Europe to the island of Madagascar, then a French colony to be surrendered to the Germans. The proposal was initiated in 1940 by Franz Rademacher, head of “the Jewish Department” of the Nazi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The plan detailed the resettlement of a million Jews per year for four years, to the island that was to be policed by the SS. The plan was cancelled in 1942 with the commencement of the Final Solution.
