Dov Karmi was born in Odessa in 1905 and Immigrated to Israel in 1921. He studied art in Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and Architecture in Gent, Belgium. Karmi was a central contributor to the development of Israeli architecture. In corporation with architects such as Shimon Povsner and Zeev and Yaakov Rechter, he planned many iconic buildings, among them the cultural center in Tel Aviv, Ha’Vaad Ha’Poel House and the Knesset. Karmi won the 1957 Israel Award for architecture. He died in 1962, aged 57.
